The Beach Food Pantry and Richard Bruce aka "Lotta Love" win the 2014 Womanless Beauty Pageant
Over 500 of our Outer Banks community turned out to attend the 4th Annual Womanless Beauty Pageant sponsored by Brindley Beach Vacations and Sales. The event, held at Kelly's Restaurant and Tavern, raised nearly $80,000 for 10 local charities; the highest-grossing year ever for the Pageant.
The Beach Food Pantry was honored to be selected by Richard Bruce (aka "Lotta Love") president of Pigman's Bar-B-Que as his featured charity. With the assistance of Richard, members of our Beach Food Pantry community, and all of those who attended and purchased tickets, we were able to raise nearly $20,000 to help support our mission of feeding the hungry right here in Dare County. This is the highest amount raised for a single charity in the Pageant's four-year history.
The event began as contestants were presented to the audience with their escorts for the evening. A wedding processional, complete with groomsmen, bridesmaids, a flower girl, and father of the bride gave Richard away to his "Groom", Carl Curnutte, who circulated with Richard through the crowd, along with a number of our volunteers, to collect wedding gifts (donations) and and take pictures with the happy couple. Richard then gave the performance of a lifetime enlisting the participation of Mike Kelly of Kelly's Restaurant Group.
His performance, along with the highest amount of monies raised, pushed the Beach Food Pantry over the top. He was crowned the 2014 Womanless Beauty Pageant winner, with the Beach Food Pantry as this year's reigning charity.
