The Summer Food for Kids Program gives parents that live OR work in Dare County access to healthy, nutritional food choices for their children, ages 0-18 years old, throughout the summer months.
Approximately 40% of students enrolled in Dare County Schools meet the federal eligibility criteria for free and reduced breakfasts and lunches. This meal program is curtailed, however, when the school year ends.
Because hunger doesn't take a summer break, the Beach Food Pantry is working to provide food to children and their families. This year's program will run 16 weeks - from June 3, 2024 through September 13, 2024.
Eligible families will choose up to 20 items per child per week. The Pantry offers a variety of nutritional options, like fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, meat, eggs and cheese.
Parents will be able to pick up their orders at the Beach Food Pantry in Kitty Hawk or at other conveneint neighborhood locations. Other locations are TBD, based on registrations.
Parents can register online at any time during the 16 weeks. If they do not have online access, they can call our office at (252) 261-2756 and we can assist them with the process.
This is an online service to streamline shopping and filling orders. Use the "Online Shopping" at the top of the page and click on "Summer Food for Kids".
